1. Tinted Moisturizer or BB Cream
When it’s hot and humid outside, the last thing you want to do is apply heavy-duty foundation all over your face. Wearing a tinted moisturizer or BB cream is just enough to cover blemishes but still embrace your natural look. Bonus: many tinted moisturizers and BB creams have built in SPF, so your skin is protected from the rays too. Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 20 ($44) provides lightweight, flawless coverage and comes in illuminating, oil-free and normal formulas. Or if you’re on a budget, try Rimmel London’s Match Perfect BB Cream ($7). Its 9-in-1 skin perfecting properties include priming, moisturizing, concealing, protecting, and brightening.
2. Lip Treatment
One of the areas of our bodies we most often forget to protect from the sun are our lips. But the lips are one of the most sensitive parts of our face, so prioritizing its protection, especially in the summer, is a must. If you plan on relaxing in the sun during daytime, apply a tinted lip balm like Fresh’s Sugar Lip Treatment ($23) with SPF 15, to avoid getting your lips burnt. Then every night before bed, apply a lip mask like Bite Beauty’s Agave Lip Mask ($26) to rejuvenate any damage from the day.
3. Texturizing Hair Spray
Whether or not you just returned from an island escape, beachy waves are always appropriate for summer. To achieve the effortless look, apply a texturizing spray to your hair when damp, then tie in topknot or braid. After a half hour, take down your hair and scrunch. You’ll feel like you just walked off the beach. Bumble and Bumble’s Surf Infusion ($29) will give you the perfect windswept texture without the icky crunchiness that comes with other salt sprays.
4. Waterproof Mascara
Beat the heat with a good waterproof mascara. If you’re going swimming at the pool or beach, swipe on a few coats of Maybelline’s Great Lash Waterproof Mascara ($6) to open up your eyes. Your lashes will stay stark black without runny mascara lines once you dip your head underwater.
5. Cream Blush
In warm weather, cream blush melds into your skin, looks super natural, and lasts longer than its powder counterpart. If you’re looking to splurge, try NARS’ The Multiple ($39) in the famous shade Orgasm. Just dab it on your cheeks and lips for a peachy tint. Or if you’re looking to save, go for Maybelline’s Dream Bouncy Blush ($8), which comes in a range of colors from girly pinks to pretty plums.
6. Eyelid Primer
As much as we hate to admit it, we all sweat in the summer and by the end of the day, our eyeshadow always seems to dissipate. Solve this problem by priming your eyes first to get long-lasting wear out of your eyeshadow. Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($20) is a cult-favorite and guarantees to prevent creasing during the day.
7. Self-Tanning Mousse
If you haven’t started to take advantage of sunless tanners, you need to start now. As appealing as laying out in the sun may seem, the terrible wrinkles, sun spots, and cancer that come as side effects aren’t worth it. Instead, apply a self-tanning mousse all over your body to get the same (non-orangey!) glow. Loving Tan’s Deluxe Bronzing Mousse ($35-$40) is a reliable option and even comes in a two-hour express formula.
8. Face Mist
Face mists not only hydrate and cool your skin, but also set your makeup so it lasts all day. Spritz on a little bit after applying your makeup and don’t blink for a few seconds so nothing smudges. You’ll feel alive, refreshed, and ready to take on the day. Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs & Rosewater ($7) is a double whammy—it smells incredible and feels amazing on the skin.
